VARIATIONS

Medina uses variations to give new life – and often new meaning – to an existing work; with modification or “intervention,” these pieces capture “l’air du temps,” the essence of the moment that are metaphors captured in the language of art. They are created with experimental, but specific intentions to alter the original work in a way that changes its narrative and reflects Medina’s evolution as artist and a human being.

These pieces are most often fine art giclée editions printed on cotton paper or leather modified by the addition, suppression, mutilation, or removal of specific elements, such as motifs, metaphors, or text that may be formal, playful, or irreverent. Medina’s approach to creating different variations of the same original work gives collectors the opportunity to know and appreciate how he has modified the artwork they collect in other, complementary or contradictory ways.
