PHOTOGRAPHY:
LA VIE EN CHATEAUX

This photographic series emerges from Medina’s nostalgic obsession with composing unique moments in time that, after their creation, will remain irretrievably lost. These photographs penetrate spaces that are normally inaccessible to the public eye, such as the grand salons of European palaces and embassies.  Medina’s lens provides a window into the aristocrats, artists, writers, politicians, and thinkers who offer their trust that he will faithfully capture their everyday, extraordinary lives in these sacred environments and participate in his metaphorical storytelling.

While paintings and drawings on canvas can be created at the pace of an artist’s choosing, Medina’s photography challenges time in particular ways. A composition, a gesture, a gaze, or a reflection of light must be captured in a moment or likely lost forever. In these photographic compositions, Medina uses metaphors to express a vast range of emotions and thoughts about political, philosophical, social, and socio-economic topics.  They are remarkable for their visual contrasts and for bringing together distinguished characters in unusual settings; his intention is to create complex and memorable, previously untold stories, derived from the artist’s own experiences.
